- First-Harvest Dark-Roasted Hojicha from Yame: Made entirely from first-harvest tea leaves and stems grown in Yame, Fukuoka, one of Japan's most prized tea regions. Most hojicha uses lower-grade raw material. Ours undergoes a dark, slow roast at high temperature for an intensely aromatic, full-bodied character.
- Fuller Body Than Typical Hojicha: Most hojicha is stem-heavy for a light, simple brew. Ours uses a higher proportion of first-harvest leaf, adding body, aroma, and a richer roast color to every cup.
- Flavor Profile: Intensely aromatic with a deep, smoky roasted character and a natural sweetness. Despite the dark roast, the taste is smooth and clean with a refreshingly light finish. Low in bitterness. Easy on the palate and gentle on the stomach.
- Naturally Low in Caffeine: The dark roasting process significantly reduces caffeine, making hojicha one of the gentlest options in Japanese green tea. Ideal for afternoon and evening drinking, or for a warming cup without the stimulation.
- Versatile Hot or Cold: Brews a rich amber cup hot, and a smooth, mellow cold brew overnight in the refrigerator (Mizudashi). Pairs well with roasted foods, chocolate desserts, and savory dishes. Each pouch (2.82oz / 80g) is sealed in an aluminum-lined bag to preserve the roasted aroma.
